About Daniel Gessel

Daniel Gessel is a director and producer specializing in combining film and history to create fascinating and powerful stories. Daniel began his journey in 2021 with his film, This is How We Say Thank You: 9/11 in Arlington, for which he received the Best Director award at the Arlington Student Film Festival. After graduating from Wesleyan University as a Film Studies and History double major, Daniel became the recipient of the inaugural WesDocs Odyssey Fellowship. As a fellow, Daniel is mentored by award winning documentary filmmakers Tracy Heather Strain and Randall MacLowry as he develops his new film on the battle over American history education.
